Darnell Nurse scored 53 seconds into overtime as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Golden Knights 3-2 Saturday night before a record crowd of 18,351 at T-Mobile Arena.
‘The Knights, who were coming off their mandatory five-day break, lost for only the third time at home this season. But they picked up a point and have 61 this season.
William Karlsson broke a 1-1 tie with 6.1 seconds remaining in the second period after the Oilers’ Patrick Maroon and the Knights’ Reilly Smith exchanged goals 1:55 apart earlier in the period. The goal was Karlsson’s team-leading 23rd.
But the Oilers tied the score 2-2 3:29 into the third when Drake Caggiula took a cross-ice feed from Maroon and beat Marc-Andre Fleury.
Connor McDavid, who turned 21 Saturday, started the rush from his own end and got the second assist, giving him 200 points for his NHL career in his 173rd game.
The Knights, who entered the game with the NHL’s 19th-best power play, went 0-for-6 against the league’s worst penalty killing unit.
