As someone who has only gotten into PC gaming in the past few years, I’ve seen the light. The visual experience alone with PC games makes it worthwhile. And, there are almost always more games to choose from, and for much cheaper than their console counterparts.
Best PC Games of 2017
The games listed below are some of the best we’ve seen in 2017. While some might not be the best in terms of review score, they are all popular in the PC gaming community. If you’re planning to buy a gift for the PC gamer in your life, there’s bound to be something below that can help you get the job done.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG, is a multiplayer online battle royale game where it’s you (or your small team) versus everyone else. If you enjoyed H1Z1 King of the Kill, you’ll enjoy PUBG. You parachute into the map, grab as much loot as you can, and try to be the person standing among the gang of 100 dropped into the world. This game is so popular that, by complete coincidence, loads more battle royale games started popping up months after it released.
With Destiny 2, the sequel to Destiny, Bungie finally brought the franchise to the PC community. This online multiplayer first person shooter puts you in the action against the Cabal Red Legion, lead by Dominus Ghaul, who attacks the City and strips the Guardians of their power. If you’re looking for a game that will have a ton of replay value, this is it. Destiny 2 is a game you can easily put thousands of hours into. With its first DLC, Curse of the Osiris, just released, you’ll have more adventures to go on. Check out our Destiny 2 review and, if you need any help, turn to our Destiny 2 guide hub.
The Long Dark
When it comes to survival games, The Long Dark stands out from the rest of them. After your plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness, you must survive the frigid cold and hostile wildlife. The Long Dark also has a story mode to enjoy, with two of five episodes currently available. It is probably the purest survival experience you can get in a video game, and is worth far more than the price tag tends to list. You can read The Long Dark review on TL;DR Games, or you can visit The Long Dark guide hub.
Assassins Creed: Origins
Ubisoft taking a step back and releasing a new Assassin’s Creed game every two years has paid off in a big way. Set in Ancient Egypt, you finally learn the origins of the conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and The Order of the Ancients who turn into The Templar Order in future games. Not only will players learn how the feud started, you’ll be able to take in breathtaking visuals of the Pyramids, and even pet cats. If you get stuck at a certain point, check out the Assassin’s Creed: Origins guide hub and TL;DR Games Assassin’s Creed Origins review.
This 2D run and gun shooter by Studio MDHR is drawn in the style of 1930s cartoons. You play as a Cuphead, who is on a quest to repay his debt by beating several bosses and stages. Cuphead also features a cooperative game play, so you don’t have to go on this adventure alone. While this may not be the easiest game to beat, it will surely give you a lot of playing time while you enjoy the nostalgia of past animation styles. Pick up Cuphead on Steam.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus comes to us at a time where certain world leaders don’t take a hard-enough stance against Nazis. In this MachineGames and Bethesda game, and sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order, you play as William “B.J.” Blazkowicz and fight against a Nazi regime in an alternate history set in 1961 United States. There is brutal Nazi killing to sooth the soul, and some of the best voice acting and cut scenes you’ll see in games this year. Be sure to check out the TL;DR Games Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus review.
Call of Duty: WWII
Continuing the yearly release schedule, this Sledgehammer and Activision game takes you back to the front lines of World War II. While you can enjoy a single player campaign, for Call of Duty it’s all about the online multiplayer. With various modes to choose from and its famous Zombie Mode, you’ll have hours of entertainment. You can pick up Call of Duty: WWII on Steam if you’re into it.
Star Wars Battlefront II
The sequel to Star Wars Battlefront, you once again take control of either Rebel or Imperial forces in this online shooter. You can also take control of your favorite Star Wars heroes, including those from the Star Wars prequel movies to the newest installment. If you want to take a break from multiplayer, Star Wars Battlefront: II also has a solo campaign. While this game came out with a lot of controversy due its loot box system, it will certainly please the Star Wars fans when you get to control your favorite characters. Star Wars Battlefront II is available to pick up on Origin.
