I’m totally wild about Assassin’s Creed: Origins, but anyone who has paid even a little attention to the Assassin’s Creed series can tell you that the last numbered entry is among the series best-made and best-loved entries. And starting next week, it’s free.
If you’re a PC gamer, you can obtain Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for the low, low price of $0. If you already have an Ubisoft account, you’ve done all you need to, otherwise you’ll need to sign up to get access.
Released in 2013, Black Flag has you playing as Edward Kenway during the classic era of pirates in the Caribbean, piloting your own ship, fighting pirates and pirate hunters alike as you explore the legacy of the Assassins and try to carve out your own legend out in the tropics.
The ship-to-ship sea combat is fun enough that Ubisoft is hard at work on a game that features just the sea combat, called Skull & Bones, set to release sometime next year. In the meantime, though, Black Flag is free.
