New characters, new game modes… new games?
Eccentric and ever lovable Producer of Street Fighter 5, Yoshinori Ono, is on his way to Anaheim, California with some big news this weekend.
Ono recently tweeted that he, and perhaps more importantly, Blanka, are on their way to PlayStation Experience with a photo from what looks to be LAX.
Said photo sees Blanka posed next to Sony Interactive Entertainment America’s CEO, Shawn Layden. It also houses the caption “[Blanka’s] pockets [are] bulging with something! ;P”
This is almost certainly a thinly veiled reference to one or more major reveals for Capcom this coming weekend.
We’ve actually heard quite a few rumors about Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition and its new updates, though there’s very little in the way of actual confirmation thus far.
We’ll take a look back over what’s been allegedly leaked and hinted at over the last few months, but first you can view Ono’s full tweet by clicking on Blanka here:
The most obvious in the way of potential reveals is the first new character in Street Fighter 5. Last year we got Akuma on the first day of PSX, and though many have been expecting Sagat, it seems Capcom is shaping up to show Sakura first.
Indeed both characters have been mentioned by Flowtron, an apparent inside source that’s accurately revealed previous information about Street Fighter 5, and have been top picks for some time in terms of community popularity.
Street Fighter isn’t the only Capcom game to appear at PSX, as Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will also have a strong presence. A massive string of alleged leaks and rumors sprung up nearly a month ago, much of which could be on the table to be shown this weekend.
In terms of MvCI, we may be seeing new characters as well as a new two on two mode wherein players can team up to fight as they each control a single character, according to the rumors.
Outside of Street Fighter and Marvel, there’s also a chance Capcom could reveal a new project for the coming year, much like they did MvCI at last year’s Experience. Perhaps it’s time for a Capcom vs. SNK 3?
The next few days will surely be exciting for the FGC, and we’d love to hear what you think is on the nearing horizon. Chime into the comments section with your thoughts, and be sure to check back regularly over the weekend for any and all fighting game news.
