Nostalgia strikes (again).
Continuing on a wave of nostalgia over the past year or two, Sega has announced that a collected edition of classics from its Genesis/Mega Drive era will be coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One later this year.
The Sega Genesis Collection (or Sega Mega Drive Collection in the UK) was initially announced via Twitter before the tweet was deleted; a trailer has since been revealed thanks to the beautifully-named “Sonic the Hedgeblog”:
Sega previously released a similar collection for PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2009 (as well as an even earlier PSP/PS2 version in 2006), which contained 48 classics including Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin and most of the Genesis/Mega Drive era Sonic the Hedgehog games. Although there has been no official word from Sega as of yet, judging by the characters featured in the trailer above we can expect a similar mix when this latest collection arrives.
This isn’t the first attempt to tickle Sega fans’ nostalgia; last September saw the release of the Genesis Flashback, a modern recreation of the Genesis system featuring 85 built-in games and compatibility with most Genesis cartridges. Check out our thoughts on that console here.
The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Collection arrives on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One May 29.
