GDC published its annual State of the Game Industry survey today, and the 2025 edition provides some insight into Nintendo Switch 2.

One of the questions developers were asked was regarding the platforms are being used for their current project. 8 percent responded by saying Nintendo Switch 2. That’s actually the same percentage given in last year’s State of the Game Industry report.

Keep in mind that Nintendo has very likely limited availability of dev kits for the new console. Once the system launches, more studios should be able to gain access more easily – especially indies.

For those curious, the same question resulted in 20 percent for the current Nintendo Switch.

Outside of that, there isn’t much in the report about platform development. It covers a variety of other topics including layoffs in the industry, AI, publishing, and more.

As of now there haven’t been may games announced for Nintendo Switch 2. Even Nintendo itself has only shown a new Mario Kart game thus far. However, all of the big publishers should begin to come forward once the system sees its full reveal during an upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 launches later in 2025. There’s no further specific timing, but Nacon recently said it expects the system to launch between April and September.
