Marvel Rivals is absolutely dominating the gaming world right now, and I’m finally ready to dive in and give it a try.
If you’re unaware of what Marvel Rivals is, it’s a free new 6v6 third-person shooter style game very similar to ‘Overwatch’ – another one of the most popular games in the world – but it uses heroes and villains from the Marvel universe with specialized abilities instead of original characters. I’ll be honest, I don’t know nearly as much about Overwatch as I should for a guy as nerdy as I am, but I think video games passed me by a couple years ago and I’ve been struggling to keep up ever since.
Don’t get me wrong – I still enjoy sitting down with a good single player story mode for a few hours, but hopping online and playing against the youth of today is a NIGHTMARE in any game. It feels like what I imagine fighting The Flash feels like for an average street thug – you’ve been hit with 110 punches and tied up for the police before you can even flinch.
I’m gonna give Marvel Rivals a shot today, though, because I can’t stop hearing about how much fun it is, how it’s the most streamed game in the world right now, and how much I’d love it. Here’s a few highlights….
Everyone from my family members to friends to coworkers to Stoolies has recommended I try it out, and I’ve been reassured that the learning curve is very tolerable – so I’m going live now figuring this shit out with the help of the chat….
We definitely want to bring some video game streams back to Barstool in 2025, and this is only the start. We’ve got a Ninetendo 64/PS2 in the office and a whole bin full of old games we’re ready to explore. Let me know what you’d like to see out of a stream and I’ll do my best to make it happen if we dig the idea!
