A cult classic game described as one of the cleverest of all time is completely free to PS5 players in January if they have a PS Plus subscription.
The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe is a remake of a game first released in 2013 to critical acclaim.
In the clever take on narrative-drive games, players taking control of office worker Stanley are met with a narrator who tells them which actions to take. Players are able to go against the suggested actions, leading the narrator to change the way they interact with the player.
Full of brilliant voice acting and clever dialogue, the game is a twisted version of usual mystery games and inspired a cult following with thousands of players. It has received top review ratings with a 97% score on Google reviews and high marks from gaming experts.
The original game is described by IGN as: “Witty, unusual and quietly discomfiting, The Stanley Parable is a successful experiment in interactive narrative.”
Another reviewer, Kathryn Wyner, says: “How else to describe The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe? Such a revolutionary step forward in the lineage of one of the most beloved video game properties of all time! The additions and changes made to this expansion will surely resonate in the annals of the history of all media ever made.”
The Ultra Deluxe version was launched last year with several new endings to the game, more dialogue and more immersive player options. It is now one of three free games available to PS Plus subscribers alongside Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. You can get them here.
The games will be available for January before new free games are launched in February.
PS Plus is not the only place gamers can get free games by signing up to a subscription service.
