Nintendo is apparently not done creating new configurations for the original Switch console. To tide over players until the April 2nd Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, a new Switch OLED bundle has surfaced. Well-known leaker billbil-kun shared a package that includes a Neon Red/Blue Switch OLED, a voucher for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a 3-month Switch Online subscription. The Switch OLED bundle has already appeared at Best Buy for $349.99.
Sales of the existing handheld have stalled as gamers hope for a Switch 2 release date in the not-too-distant future. With a light release schedule, Nintendo may be trying to boost sales until its next console is ready. On the other hand, any new Switch owners are less likely to upgrade when the sequel debuts.
The response to the new Switch OLED bundle has been less than glowing. Even though the Switch OLED MSRP without any bonuses is $349.99, the new deal hardly seems like a clearance price. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is yet another well-received Mario title that innovates the 2D platformer formula. Still, the Nintendo Switch OLED Mario Kart Deluxe Bundle remains one of the most popular targets for buyers. That bundle has often been discounted to $275 at retailers.
An announced Switch 2 price at the upcoming Direct could affect whether anyone is tempted by this bundle. Speculation about the new handheld console’s cost has been rampant, with $399 a popular guess among analysts. If that MSRP materializes, it’s going to become harder to convince buyers to stick with the first Switch. Among other upgrades, the Switch 2 specs should include a larger display and magnetic joy-cons that may even double as mice.
Of course, disaster often strikes with portable consoles, forcing the need for replacements. Gamers who purchase the new Switch OLED bundle can at least be confident that current-gen games will work on the Switch 2.
