Developers Seawolf Studio and General Arcade are excited to bring Captain Blood in collaboration with the new publisher SNEG. Originally intended to be released in 2010 for the Xbox 360, the title got lost in the vast sea… until now.

This hackn’ slash love-letter to the early 2010s in gaming is finally receiving a release date after struggling to release for 20 years. Due to legal battles with the now-defunct publisher that had gone bankrupt, the team has partnered up with SNEG to bring Captain Blood to modern-day consoles, bringing a bit of old-school charm with it.

Sail the Spanish main as Captain Blood, a grog-drinking, maiden-romancing pirate who gets hired for a special mission: rescue the local magistrate’s daughter. Embark on action-packed shenanigans with retro gameplay, including hack-and-slash gameplay, classic fighting systems, epic finishers, and QTE — MANY QTEs.

Though Captain Blood is old-school, it retains its retro charm as a relic of the past whilst still receiving tweaks to fit modern audiences. SNEG’s co-founder had this to say about the title:

Captain Blood is a love letter from a bygone gaming era, when you could start and finish a fun, linear, and QTE-heavy games in a weekend and still have time left to debate next-gen console specs. So much love and passion went into making this one, from the original dev team to our crew at SNEG Ltd. We know gamers, young and old, have been craving an old-school pirate adventure, and here it comes!
