Alongside the reveal that premium Switch 2 Edition games are coming, Nintendo has confirmed original Switch games that are getting free upgrades.
While paid, premium Switch 2 Edition games are planned for original Switch titles, there will be free updates for “select Nintendo Switch” games.
Nintendo Switch 2 will offer free upgrades that “may improve performance” or add “support for features such as GameShare”, and the contents of the free upgrades will differ depending on the game.
Here’s the current list of games that are getting a free Switch 2 upgrade:

- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- Game Builder Garage
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokemon Scarlet
- Pokemon Violet
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Super Mario Odyssey
In related news, preorders for Switch 2 have been delayed while Nintendo assesses the impact of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5th, with a suggested retail price set at $449.99 in the USA / 49,980 yen (Japan region-lock) or 69,980 yen (Japan region-free) / €469.99 in Europe.
