As it stands, the Switch 2 will cost you $450 for the standalone hardware or $500 for the hardware bundled with Mario Kart World. Nintendo usually keeps hardware pricing as-is unless sales are really hurting, but one analyst thinks the Big N will take a different approach with Switch 2.

Pricing Studio CEO Yoshihiro Takahashi was asked about the Switch 2 pricing, and he believes Nintendo will slowly but surely drop the price of the platform in order to capture a larger audience. He thinks Nintendo is taking the approach of a premium price at launch because diehard fans will jump in at any cost, but Nintendo will eventually lower the price in order to reach more mass market consumers.

Takahashi also stated that going with the current pricing scheme for Switch 2 gives off the vibe that this is a premium product when compared to the original Switch. This allows the company to maximize profits at the hardware’s launch and then rejigger the situation down the line.

It’s certainly an idea, but not necessarily one we’ve seen from Nintendo before. Will this analyst end up being right? Only time will tell!
