Following the successful launch of its Kickstarter campaign, the localization project for the yuri visual novel Black Lily’s Tale has unveiled a series of stretch goals. Developer 1000-REKA has detailed additional content and platform expansions that backers can help unlock, including a highly requested English version for Nintendo Switch if the campaign can clear $23,550. As of this writing, backers have raised $8,139 for the project.
Stretch Goals Breakdown
With its base funding target already making progress, the team behind Black Lily’s Tale is aiming for new milestones to expand the game’s reach and content. The stretch goals are as follows:
- ¥1,500,000 – Fukahire’s Manga (English) & New 4-Panel Comics
A digital English translation of Black Lily’s Tale short stories by illustrator Fukahire, originally released at Comiket, will be distributed to backers. Additionally, brand-new four-panel comic strips will be created. - ¥2,500,000 – Additional In-Game DLC Event
A free DLC event will be added to the game for all backers. While currently planned to be voice-free, this additional scene promises to expand the game’s narrative experience. - ¥3,500,000 – English Version for Nintendo Switch
If this goal is met, an English-language version of the game will be developed for the Nintendo Switch, making it more accessible to a broader audience.
A Unique Yuri Visual Novel
Black Lily’s Tale originally launched on PC via Steam on October 24, 2023, and has received praise for its delicate, expressive illustrations by Fukahire and its innovative gameplay mechanics. Unlike traditional visual novels, the game incorporates a unique free-choice input system, allowing players to type keywords and alter the story’s direction. This mechanic draws comparisons to the Ace Attorney series, offering an interactive storytelling experience beyond standard dialogue choices.
Set in a world marked by past tragedy, Black Lily’s Tale follows Hana Sasamori, a high school student struggling with her feelings for her close friend, Itsuki. As Hana finds herself trapped in a time loop just before graduation, players must guide her through difficult choices, aiming for the best possible outcome. The game blends elements of romance, psychological conflict, and mystery, distinguishing itself from conventional yuri narratives.
A Growing Support Base
The Kickstarter campaign aims to fund the game’s English localization, with contributions supporting translation efforts, UI adjustments, and overall quality improvements. While the project has already attracted a passionate following, reaching the higher-tier stretch goals could significantly expand the game’s impact, particularly with the possibility of a Switch release.
