The Mobile Museum of Tolerance visits Buffalo schools to educate students on civil rights and combating hate through interactive workshops.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — A museum on wheels has made its way back to Buffalo this week to educate students through educational workshops and exhibits focused on moral courage, civil rights, and Holocaust education.
Buffalo schools will have The Mobile Museum of Tolerance at three Buffalo-area schools this week including Kenmore East High School, Kenmore West High School, and Waterfront Elementary.
“A lot of people talk about how much loneliness is affecting us today,” Brian Strafach of the Museum of Tolerance said. ” Teenagers and adults alike. So if we can talk about how we built community together, why it’s so important that we have community, who’s there to support us, have our back, that just makes our experience as people so much more comfortable.”
The Mobile Museum of Tolerance, based in Los Angeles, CA, offers facilitator-led workshops that explore current issues of bias, bigotry, and discrimination, encourages students to become upstanders in their daily lives.
“Amid a rising climate of hate and division, the Mobile Museum of Tolerance creates space for empathy, understanding, and action through immersive education,” MMoT said in a release. “During its Buffalo visit, the museum invites students to explore history, reflect on their role in today’s world, and discover how they can take a stand against hate in their own communities.”
Some of the sessions and workshops being offered for students include:
- Fact or Fiction? Digital Media Literacy Workshop
- The Anne Frank Story
- The Power of Ordinary People
