The show is still rolling for the rest of the week, but for everyone watching from home and tuning in for the annual conferences, the bulk of E3 2019 is done. So what did you think?

Everyone knows new hardware is still a year off, and with Sony not present at all it was expected that things would be a little subdued this year. Just think of all the games that weren’t at E3: Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, Metroid 4, Bayonetta 3, whatever Ubisoft is doing with that Avatar game, Beyond Good & Evil 2 (at least in the conference), all the Sony first-party titles like Death Stranding, and PlatinumGames’ Babylon’s Fall, which was supposed to be out later this year.

But there were plenty of positive announcements. The Avengers game was well received, a Final Fantasy 8 remake is finally on its way to the Switch. Pokemon Sword & Shield looks genuinely great, although I’m less interested in those starters than what happens when my boy Psyduck dynmaxes.

And then you have things like Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077. Microsoft had one of its best years of the generation — still a bit light on actual gameplay for the most part, but plenty of solid announcements from the games, to game services, and a whole new console. It was well paced, too.

Speaking of highlights, here’s that FF7 remake extended trailer.

What’s interesting is that most of the announcements — save for Nintendo, where a lot had already been aired for late June or July, or things released prior to the show that’s dropping next month — were for September this year, or March next year. There were a couple of October and November releases, but for the most part this is what September is looking like:

  • Catherine: Full Body [PS4]
  • Conan Chop Chop [PC, PS4, XBO, Switch]
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne DLC [PS4, XBO]
  • Gears 5 [PC, XBO]
  • Borderlands 3 [PC, PS4, XBO]
  • Daemon X Machina [Switch]
  • Destiny 2: Shadowkeep DLC [PC, PS4, XBO]
  • FIFA 20
  • Truck Driver [PS4, XBO]
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening [Switch]
  • Contra: Rogue Corps [PC, PS4, XBO, Switch]
  • Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition [Switch]
  • Destiny 2: New Light [PC, PS4, XBO]
  • Doctor Who: The Edge of Time [PC VR, PSVR]
  • Phoenix Point [PC, XBO]
  • Someday You’ll Return [PC, PS4, XBO]

November still has Death Stranding, the Stadia launch, Jedi Fallen Order and DOOM Eternal, as well as Planet Zoo and Shenmue 3 if you’re really into that, but it’s far, far less packed.

Anyway, what did you think of the show? What was your favourite announcement, your pick of the conferences, your worst conference, and what games are you keen to find out more about?
