Revealed today during Xbox’s latest Developer_Direct, the latest game in the DOOM franchise from id software, DOOM: The Dark Ages release date is now confirmed as May 15th, 2025.

Per Bethesda, “DOOM: The Dark Ages is the single-player, action FPS prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. You are the DOOM Slayer, the legendary demon-killing warrior fighting endlessly against Hell. Experience the epic cinematic origin story of the DOOM Slayer’s rage in 2025.”

As seen today during the Developer_Direct, this latest iteration of DOOM looks nothing short of incredible, and has quite happily sky-rocketed its way to being one of our most anticipated games releasing this year.

And that’s saying something, because there is a lot of really awesome games releasing in 2025.

Origin Story

Players will take on the role of the DOOM slayer at the very height of his powers, and the game tells an origin story in what the developers have said is their biggest DOOM campaign yet. Equipped with new weapons and a brand new and very powerful looking shield, this one has us old grey-beards pretty hyped.

If you’ve not played either of the modern DOOM games, starting with the reboot from 2016 and the follow up of DOOM: Eternal, you can check out both as they’re available right now on Xbox Game Pass.

If you’re looking forward to more on the game, keep your eyes on XboxEra.com later today, because we have a little bit more to share with you all besides just confirmation of the DOOM: The Dark Ages release date.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is coming out on May 15th, 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It’s available Day One on Game Pass. We’ll have a full review closer to launch – and we can’t wait.
