The new generation upgrade for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has gone live for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with PS4 and Xbox One owners of the game now able to grab a free upgrade to native current gen version release.

The free upgrade is available now via the usual systems, but we’re waiting on official word for what the specific improvements are. On Xbox Series X, there is now a 49GB update as part of Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system, but on PlayStation 5 the process is a little bit more involved and you need to “purchase” the free upgrade. The now cross-gen release is available on the PlayStation Store, but you can also get the upgrade via the PlayStation app or on the PS5 itself.

Update: We are seeing reports, however, that Jedi: Fallen Order has been removed from EA Play on PlayStation for some reason – it is no longer in the EA Play library. This means that you cannot upgrade or even play the PS4 version via this subscription anymore. Jedi: Fallen Order is still available via EA Play on Xbox. (Thanks, MrYD)

While the game had previously been updated to take advantage of the added power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles via their various backward compatibility systems, Respawn announced at the end of April that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would receive a full native release on these platforms. This was particularly good news for PS5 owners, because while the Xbox Series X backward compatibility allowed it to run in full 4K, the PS5 was limited to what the PS4 Pro code would allow, a mere 1200p at 60fps. That was a step up from the 810-1080p limit that it shipped with, but significantly behind the Xbox Series X.

In our review for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Jim wrote:

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is exactly the kind of single player game we had originally hoped to see when EA and Disney joined forces. Even if you strip away the license, you’re left with a super satisfying mix or combat, story, and exploration, deftly crafted by a studio best known for spearheading an entirely different genre.
