Remedy Entertainment dropped a new trailer at the Future Games Show for their first self-published title FBC: Firebreak. Taking place in the Control universe at The Oldest House, the Federal Bureau of Control’s ever-shifting headquarters. The Oldest House is under attack by a relentless paranatural force and only Firebreak, the adaptable response unit, has the skills and courage to restore order. The cooperative shooter has players shooting through The Oldest House as a threesome. Let’s take a look at the new trailer and see what devices the Federal Bureau of Control has for its Firebreak team.
Remedy Entertainment has a strong lineage of critically acclaimed titles but so far has not dabbled too deeply into multiplayer experiences. FBC: Firebreak is a breakaway title for Remedy Entertainment, not just because it’s a cooperative title, but because it’s Remedy’s first self-published title. FBC: Firebreak is a session-based multiplayer game with replayable missions called ‘Jobs.’ In the trailer, we’re seeing one such job titled ‘Paper Chase,’ where an outbreak of rogue sticky notes spirals into a full-blown paranatural crisis. Before diving into the job, players choose a Crisis Kit to determine what role they’ll be playing during the Job. We’ve been given a little information about some of these roles:
FBC: Firebreak Roles for Jobs
- Jump Kit – Focused on electricity-based abilities, excelling in field control and mobility.
- Fix Kit – A heavy-hitting kit built around impact-based attacks, including a massive wrench.
- Splash Kit – A water-based kit specializing in manipulating battlefield conditions and supporting teammates.
Promising to continue supporting the game post-launch, Remedy has said that all future content, including new Jobs, will be free. However, cosmetics for the game will be sold, not earned. Promising no limited-time rotations or daily log-ins with more details shared in the future. Along with the trailer, Remedy released a Community First Look video on their channel related to Jobs and Gameplay. In the video, the development team gives a deeper dive into the Job from the trailer, Paper Chase. The video goes deeper into the gameplay and the Job itself, while also providing some insight on how they developed the game.
It’s nice to see Remedy expand on the enigmatic Control universe, especially considering how well it was received. Our own Diego Escala gave Control a perfect score! And since then, the follow-up to their already critically acclaimed Alan Wake saw even greater laurels with Alan Wake 2. In another game, we gave a perfect score. FBC: Firebreak has a lot to live up to, and I’m really looking forward to it.
