You may have started hearing about gaming smartphones that boast about some form of water-cooling (technically vapor), but the real titleholders in water-cooled systems are monstrous gaming PC rigs. Not a problem when you have a huge desktop tower, not so much when your gaming computer of choice is a laptop. That’s where Gigabyte’s latest baby comes in. The AORUS RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Box claims to be an external graphics enclosure like no other, boasting of the industry’s first water cooling solution inside a graphics dock.

Even gaming laptops these days boast of what manufacturers call water or liquid cooling. But even the most powerful gaming laptop doesn’t hold a prayer to the mighty desktop-class graphics cards. External graphics docks or enclosures offer a sort of middle ground, allowing laptops to offload both the graphics processing and, naturally, the heat to these boxes.

The Gigabyte AORUS RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Box is designed to take the heat without actually getting too hot to handle. That’s thanks to Gigabyte’s AORUS Waterforce cooling system, which not only a 240 mm aluminum radiator and a large copper plate but also two 120 mm fans. All of that is crammed inside a box that can be stowed away when not needed and even carried around in a bag of its own.

That water cooling will be pointless if the graphics dock doesn’t even have a card that needs it. With the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, however, you definitely want more than just natural air to keep things running in optimal conditions. More than just for gaming, the number-crunching abilities of the card also opens up laptops to more uses cases, including content creation and even AI and deep learning.

Gigabyte has yet to announce pricing for the Gigabyte AORUS RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Box but all that power won’t come cheap. Curiously, the RTX 2080 Ti inside the water-cooled box isn’t overclocked though the cooling system will most likely tempt hardcore PC users to do so.
