Rockstar just gave us a little something to chew on while we wait (impatiently) for GTA 6—and it’s none other than GTA 5, back again on Xbox Game Pass starting April 15. Yes, it’s free (with Game Pass), yes, it’s enhanced, and yes, we’re absolutely going to act like this means GTA 6 is around the corner—even if deep down we know it’s not.

Announced by Xbox’s Senior Community Lead Megan Spurr, GTA 5 is returning to Xbox Game Pass for both Xbox One and Series X/S. But the real cherry on top? PC players with Game Pass will get the “Enhanced” version—complete with ray tracing, faster load times, and some seriously smooth graphical upgrades.
You’ll also get the latest GTA Online update, Hao’s Special Works, which adds new cars and a custom auto shop. Basically, it’s a solid deal if you’ve somehow skipped playing GTA 5 for the last 12 years (we’re judging you a little, but go off).

If this feels like déjà vu, that’s because it is. GTA 5 has been on Game Pass a few times already—only to be yanked off a couple months later. Rockstar knows what they’re doing. This move feels like one last push to cash in on Shark Card sales before GTA 6 comes in hot and completely hijacks the GTA Online economy.
It’s like Rockstar’s way of saying, “Here, go cause chaos one more time—on us.”

Let’s be honest: this likely has nothing to do with GTA 6. Rockstar puts GTA 5 back on Game Pass like it’s an annual tradition at this point. But does that stop fans from making wild theories? Absolutely not.
Reddit’s already buzzing with comments like, “They’re prepping us for something” or “This is strategic—GTA 6 is dropping sooner than we think.” And hey, even if it’s pure cope, we respect the optimism.

Whether or not this has anything to do with GTA 6, we’re not complaining. GTA 5 for free (again), with all the new upgrades and content, is still one of the best open-world packages you can get your hands on.
