Do you want to build a Game Boy?

There have been many recreations of Nintendo’s Game Boy made in Lego, but all have been fan-designed. That will change when an official Game Boy Lego kit is released late this year. It was announced last week via X, though very little has been shared of the kit. In fact, there isn’t even an image of anything important. The announcement teaser video only features floating/falling pieces of Lego that will be included in the kit and a release window.

The Lego Game Boy kit joins a long line of collaborations between the iconic toy manufacturer and the iconic video game company. If you were lucky enough to grab the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System kit, the Game Boy should match nicely while also packing a punch of colour with the purple accents.

The weird thing here is the launch date: October 2025. That’s ten months away. Nintendo fans are understandably upset about the lack of news regarding any Nintendo Switch successor; this is not the console news anyone has really wanted . Why announce the Game Boy kit so far from its release? Who knows. But it is a nifty piece to add to your gaming memorabilia collection.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed

Originally set to launch this Valentine’s Day, spouses around the world must be collectively sighing in relief after Assassin’s Creed Shadows was pushed back to mid-March. The delay was announced in an Ubisoft strategic update press release on January 9, which explains, “As part of the renewed focus on gameplay quality and engaging Day-1 experiences, it has been decided to provide an additional month of development to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This additional time will allow the team to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months and help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community.”

The announcement was also made on the Assassin’s Creed X account, with a message from Assassin’s Creed franchise executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote. In part, it reads: “Since November, we’ve been thrilled to share our progress through gameplay overviews, and the overwhelming excitement has truly inspired us. Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.”

Developed by Ubisoft’s Quebec studio, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released for Amazon Luna, Mac via the App Store, PC via Steam/Epic/Ubisoft, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series on March 20.

Wallace & Gromit are coming to PowerWash Simulator

The PowerWash Simulator DLC that stands out to me are those based on cartoons; the SpongeBob SquarePants and Shrek Special Packs (paid DLC) include some of my favourite levels. It is just delightful to clean up whacky cartoon mishaps, I suppose. Another Special Pack rooted in a cartoon collaboration is on its way, as the Wallace & Gromit Special Pack was announced last week.

Currently, there is no news regarding a release date for the Wallace & Gromit Special Pack. From experience (since I have played the crap out of PowerWash Simulator, including all the DLC), it shouldn’t be terribly long before we are cleaning everything from charming British suburbs to cheesy celestial bodies.

Developed by FuturLab and published by Square Enix Collective, PowerWash Simulator is available for PC via Steam/Microsoft, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.

Lern Island Letters launches today/tomorrow

Short narrative game Lern Island Letters puts you in the role of a postman sorting mail for five residents of a remote island. As you learn their habits, discover their secrets without ever opening the envelopes to save the peaceful island from its fate

Despite being about letters, there is little reading actually involved. You’ll need to pick up on any subtle clues on the outside of envelopes. There is some exploration of morality, whether following the rules is always the right choice. It can be played in one sitting.

Developed and published by River and Oak, Lern Island Letters will be released for PC via Steam on January 13, 2025.
