The much-anticipated indie game Lake is set to release today. Here’s what we know about this cosy game so far.
If you’ve ever found yourself fantasizing about moving to the countryside then Lake might be the perfect new game for you. This relaxed open-world game by Dutch developer Gamious is initially available on PC and Xbox Series X | S.
When it was teased at this year’s Wholesome Direct Lake drew many eyes for its stunning backdrops and life simulation gameplay. In Lake, players step back into the year 1986 and follow the burnt-out software engineer Meredith Weiss on her journey of self-discovery.
WHAT IS THE INDIE GAME LAKE ABOUT?
Meredith has returned to her hometown and taken up a mail delivery route to escape her daily grind back in the city. Players will get to explore the virtual lakeside community of Providence Oaks, Oregon at their leisure as they deliver packages.
Gameplay clips so far have shown players driving through idyllic landscapes and engaging in conversation with townsfolk.
As a narrative-driven game, the player is given many choices. You’ll get to choose which relationships you want to invest in and what parts of town you want to explore. Lake boasts a variety of romanceable NPCs and LGBTQ+ representation.
Don’t let its lighthearted premise fool you though, Lake presents a poignant narrative that will make you reluctant to leave Providence Oaks. The choices you make will show you distinct endings with fully developed narratives.
