Nintendo made its first announcement regarding Switch 2 last week, but there’s still a lot to learn about the system. However, there is one concrete detail we know: it’ll be full backwards compatible with the current Nintendo Switch. There’ll be some exceptions – probably things like Nintendo Labo – but on the whole there’ll probably be just a handful of titles that aren’t compatible.

With that said, which Switch games are you looking forward to playing on Nintendo Switch 2? Are there certain titles you’re holding off on trying until the new console launches? Let us know in the comments.

I’m going to preorder as soon as it’s open. I’d like to know more about the console as well so I’m looking forward to the april direct. The fact that my switch library (both physical and digital) is compatible will be a huge plus!

Logical Q

So far it’s a whole lot of nothing since we still know basically nothing about it. A new Mario Kart is looking good (unless they do MK8 Deluxe Deluxe) since MK8 is probably the best Mario Kart game. I need to see more of what the console is capable of, that way I can make an informed choice. It’s Nintendo so I’m just expecting old/late/previous gen ports and almost no current games (and the ones that do would likely be just significantly cut down ports).

If the minimum level of power is there it (and no, it doesn’t need to be a PS5 Pro in a handheld) it’ll allow for game design not possible on Switch 1 but that everything else has done for years now. That would open possibilities for new 1st party game improvements.

Although power and design possibilities or not, I now have no faith Game Freak can do anything with it.

I was disappointed that a cgi render is all we got to see really. And a snippet of MK9. Now we need to wait till April to see more, meaning the console release might not be till June. It’s all taking so damn long. I was hoping for a release around March. Then again I was hoping the console would arrive March last year.

I remember when Switch came out people complaining the hardware was already 2 years out of date. Switch 2 is using a cpu and gpu from 2020. I mean really what I care about is the software, it’s just I’m betting this thing is gonna cost about €400/£350. Which makes it overpriced for the tech in it. And I hope we don’t end up with another Switch situation, TOTK ran like crap as soon as you started using the vehicle building mechanics more, and Ninty were fine with 20fps900p gameplay. After being about 10 hours into it I grew tired of how it ran and looked when I’m used to playing games in 4k60 on my OLED that’s about 6 feet away from me, and decided to get Yuzu and play the rest of it on my PC, which I could run at a solid 1440p50 at the time with the early support on the emulator. It felt like a dirty way of doing it, but the proper way kinda sucked, and this was such a big improvement. Being able to play it smooth, higher res, and cleaner looking with better texture filtering and anti aliasing. Things which Ninty don’t seem to care about.

I just hope Switch 2 doesn’t end up like that again. Playing in portable hides a lot, and 30fps is ok on the small screen. But playing docked on games that run poorly and low res was not a good experience. And when we had mostly solid stuff like Mario Odyssey, it was disappointing. Lotta first party stuff was worse than it should have been really. Felt like the Nintendo quality was ignored to simply get things out there. I hope they at least use DLSS to upscale cleanly and if the next big Zelda on Switch 2 is 30fps again, which I expect it to be, is at least solid, not dropping down to 20fps. It’s like the N64 days, and when you see games run in a solid 60 like Odyssey, albeit in 900p also as I recall, it was quite poor to have big blockbuster stuff on the same system run so poorly. Hell look at Links Awakening remake, that should have been a really solid performing game, and even that had a real janky framerate jumping between 30/60, they should have patched it to be locked to 30 at least so it wasn’t so distracting. Also people with modded switches were overclocking to get it in 60fps. Just feels like we don’t get the Nintendo care and optimization we expect as much these days.

I’ll certainly enjoy this second tango hard. This is the previous system with even more possibilities in store for us.
