At long last, fans can now watch every Mariners game without needing to sign up for a cable, satellite or streaming TV service.
SEATTLE — Local fans will now have a way to stream every Seattle Mariners game without a paid television subscription.
The team launched Root Sports Stream on Friday, the team’s first direct-to-consumer streaming product that will give fans access to live Mariners games and other Mariners-related content as well as all ROOT Sports programming. The app will cost $19.99 a month with no long-term commitment.
The announcement says fans who already subscribe to ROOT Sports through a cable or streaming television provider will be able to access the new app at no additional cost.
Access to the Mariners’ local broadcasts has been a point of contention for western Washington fans in recent years. Xfinity moved ROOT Sports into its Ultimate TV package in October 2023, forcing fans to pay an additional $18.50 a month on top of their cable subscription price.
There was no individual streaming option until now, and fans could only get ROOT through signing up for subscriptions with services like Xfinity, DirecTV or Fubo. ROOT Sports will broadcast every Mariners game during the season outside of the select group that will be exclusive to the league’s national TV partners like Apple TV, FOX, ABC/ESPN, and others.
Root Sports Stream can be accessed on web browsers or through downloading the app on mobile/tablet devices and connected TV providers.
The Mariners own 100% of ROOT Sports after Warner Bros. divested its stake in the network a few years ago, per The Seattle Times. The Mariners are the only Pacific Northwest professional team whose broadcasts appear on ROOT after the Seattle Kraken and Portland Trail Blazers moved away from the network in recent years.
