It’s been a while since we’ve heard rumours of the all-digital Xbox One, but a German website has now found actual evidence, whose origin seems to be a European retailer. To entice the users, Microsoft are throwing in a few extras too.

German website Winfuture.de reports that the images they obtained from a European retailer are genuine, and they indeed seem to be.

As you can see, they show the Xbox One S, All Digital edition packaging, which promises “disc-free gaming” and “best value in games and entertainment” from Microsoft’s new console.

If you look below the console, right on the green strip, you’ll notice logos of Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 3, which presumably come preinstalled on the console.

The lower left corner shows 1 terabyte of disc space, while the rest seems pretty much the same as it does on regular Xbox One S consoles.

Winfuture.de suggest that Xbox One S All Digital launches in Europe on 07 May 2019, priced at €229.99, referring of course to the one you see on the images.

The reason why this is important is that not all of the All Digital Xbox editions might come with these games, or with any games at all for that matter, as it’s likely to depend on the region.

If the launch date of 07 May 2019 is correct, however, we will find out in three weeks anyway. Microsoft obviously think that Xbox One S still has enough in its tank to run down the outgoing PS4.

Ultimately Microsoft and Xbox steering away from optical media is a historical milestone too, as it indicates the age of digital, which has slowly but surely taken over as the prefered distribution method.

In the UK, for instance, weekly physical sales charts have been showing steady drops for just about all the major franchises, and the recent list of best selling UK developers by UKIE confirms that boxed copies are going the way of the vinyl.
