Capcom has officially released Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in its long-running action RPG series, on PlayStation 5 (with PS5 Pro Enhanced support), Xbox Series X, and PC. In this new generation experience for the long-running franchise, players will embark on an expedition to the Forbidden Lands, confronting powerful new monsters and navigating a dynamically changing environment.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players join the Forbidden Lands Expedition Team, formed after the rescue of a young boy named Nata, who was attacked by the mysterious “White Wraith” known as Arkveld. The player’s Hunter, now fully voiced for the first time in series history, is accompanied by allies, including Alma, a Guild-appointed Handler, Gemma, a Smithy, and their trusty Palico companion as they uncover the mysteries around this boy and the mysterious “Keepers”.

The game will see players traverse a range of biomes such as the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, and Oilwell Basin, each undergoing drastic shifts between periods of Plenty and Fallow. These environmental changes, collectively known as the “Inclemency”, impact both monster behavior and hunting strategies, requiring players to adapt as the ecosystem transforms around them.
Monster Hunter Wilds features a range of new creatures alongside returning series staples like Rathalos. Hunters will encounter apex predators such as Rey Dau, Uth Duna, and Nu Udra, each bringing unique threats to their respective territories. The game also introduces the Seikret, a new mount that enables players to track monsters, gather materials on the move, and seamlessly switch between weapons mid-hunt.

The combat system has been expanded with new mechanics, including Focus Mode, which allows precise targeting of monster weak points, and Focus Strikes for dealing heavy damage. Additional combat techniques include Offset Attacks, which counter monster moves, and Power Clashes, which enable players to physically overpower their foes in intense struggles. Players can take on hunts solo, in a cross-platform multiplayer party of up to four hunters, or with NPC allies via the Support Hunter feature.
Following launch, Monster Hunter Wilds will receive ongoing content updates, beginning with Event Quests next week, which will provide opportunities to earn special armour. The first major free Title Update, arriving in Autumn 2025 [ANZ], will bring back Mizutsune, the Leviathan known for its graceful yet deadly bubble attacks. Further updates, including Title Update 2 scheduled for Winter 2025 [ANZ], will introduce additional content and challenges.
