Indie games often find success by bringing something different to the table. It could be through unique mechanics, nostalgic appeal, or simply an engaging multiplayer experience. FlyKnight, a newly launched first-person dungeon crawler, seems to have struck the right balance. Released on January 31, 2025, by developer Wabbaboy, the game has quickly gained momentum on Steam, earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating from over 600 reviews – merely in the span of 2 days. The game is now resting near the top of the “Popular New Releases” chart.
FlyKnight features a hack-and-slash combat system with cooperative dungeon crawling. Players can explore medieval-style environments either solo or with up to four friends. The game’s combat system basically revolves around targeting enemy limbs—chopping off arms to weaken foes or using long-range attacks to stay out of danger. There’s also a fishing mechanic, which lets players catch creatures that provide a variety of buffs for combat.
Priced at just $5.39 with a limited-time 10% launch discount, FlyKnight has gotten attention for its affordability as well. In the Steam reviews section, players describe it as being reminiscent of old-school games, probably due to its simple visuals. Some reviews also mention that the game is on the shorter side, but it does have potential for future updates.
FlyKnight runs on Unreal Engine and has relatively low system requirements, needing only 8GB of RAM and an older GTX 470 or Radeon 6870 GPU. This should make it accessible even to players with older setups.
The game is currently available on Steam, with its introductory discount running until February 7, 2025.
