Thanks to the ever-observant Wario on X, we’ve been tipped off about an exciting development for Xbox fans—a brand-new controller is about to launch and is already available for pre-order on Amazon. Priced at $74.99, this mystery controller can be secured now, with an expected delivery date of February 18.
While the listing is live, details about the controller are scarce though we expect after this leak, will be announced officially in the coming days. Could this be a fresh colorway, a limited-edition design, or perhaps something more innovative? For now, all we can do is wonder—and place our orders if the suspense proves too much to bear.
Before you get too excited
No this is not the mythical Sebile controller we have all been waiting for to appear, and honestly it doesn’t have the price point to fit those metaphorical haptic trousers. What it most likely is, given the MSRP of $74.99, is another Special Edition variant of the standard Xbox Series X|S controller.
If history is anything to go by, Microsoft tends to reveal these types of Special Editions around this time of year. Last year, we saw the announcement of the stunning Dream Vapor controller, which debuted with a similar pre-order timeline. The year before that, the Stellar Shift controller dropped in January, both launches kicking off a wave of fresh designs. Naturally, I bought both of them—so, R.I.P. to my bank account yet again. These releases have historically signaled the start of a new collection, with additional variants such as the Lunar Shift and multiple Vapor colorways following in their footsteps, and of course eventually being added to the Design Lab for customization options.
More recently, we’ve seen the launch of the Cipher series, with the introduction of transparent designs like Blue and Ghost, catering to retro-loving gamers. This new controller could very well be another addition to that line—or something entirely different.
If I had to place bets, I have three possible theories about what this mysterious controller might be. First, it could be a new Cipher color, and if I’m allowed to dream, I’d love to see a gorgeous green reminiscent of the 8Bitdo Xbox keyboard and mouse which is inspired by the OG Xbox. Second, it could mark the start of an entirely new range of controllers with a fresh aesthetic. Lastly—and this one’s a bit of a long shot—it could be an Avowed-themed controller, considering the timing lines up pretty closely with the game’s February 13, 2025, launch date. That said, Xbox hasn’t done a themed controller release for a game since Starfield (god damnit I bought that one too), so this scenario feels like the least likely of the three.
