All apps connected to the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, have been shut down within the United States. And there is one odd connection to this ban that may have many Disney fans scratching their heads. Marvel Snap has been banned in the U.S., thanks to the recent TikTok ban.

Marvel Snap is a digital collectible card game available on the PC gaming site Steam. It’s a digital strategy game similar to the card games Magic: The Gathering and Disney’s Lorcana.

Marvel Snap was developed by Second Dinner, but according to Forbes, ByteDance was the publisher as its subsidiary Nuverse. ByteDance left the game in 2023, but Marvel Snap continued under Second Dinner. However, when TikTok and all other apps linked to ByteDance were banned, Marvel Snap was included, even to the surprise of the developers, per a Twitter post by Second Dinner. If you try to open the game in the U.S., you get a similar message about a U.S. law banning the game as when you try to use TikTok.

Regardless that ByteDance left the gaming industry over a year ago, somehow its connection to games such as Marvel Snap remained enough that the game was banned. Second Dinner shared that they are actively working to get the game back up as soon as possible.

Several other popular apps have been affected by the recent TikTok ban, including CapCut. lt is possible that these apps may return to the U.S. in the coming days after the Inauguration, but much is left unsure.
