Nintendo’s Switch 2 comes with a handful of hardware upgrades over its predecessor, and the team behind Civilization 7 has praised the graphical performance of the gaming handheld. To be specific, Dennis Shirk, the game’s executive producer, commented that the performance is comparable to that of a mid-tier PC.
Worth noting that Civilization VII is one of the many confirmed games for the Nintendo Switch 2. It became available on Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, Steam Deck, and Nintendo’s last-gen gaming handheld on February 11, 2025. As for the Switch 2 version, the team behind the title praised how well it plays on the new console.
In an interview with Stephen Totilo of Game File, Dennis Shirk commented that the game can run as it does on a “mid-tier PC because it’s got enough power.” This comes after Nvidia claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 can deliver “10x the graphics performance” of the first-gen gaming handheld.
As for the game itself, the Civilization 7 port for the original Nintendo Switch received mixed reviews, as the device had limited hardware power. Many shared that they avoided large-sized maps just to get a somewhat playable experience on the last-gen gaming handheld.
However, given the praise that the developer has given the Nintendo Switch 2 for its graphical performance, the experience should be much smoother with the new hardware. For those who missed it, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will be available for Nintendo’s latest gaming handheld on June 5, and players having the existing Switch release (available on Amazon) can transfer the game to the Switch 2. Of course, a game upgrade purchase is required to enjoy the enhancements brought by the new version.
