Some of the best games for the original Nintendo Switch are getting paid upgrades to the Switch 2, which should offer better graphics and higher frame rates. Nintendo has now revealed how expensive these upgrades for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and other games will be.

Just a few days ago, Nintendo confirmed that select Nintendo Switch 2 games, like Mario Kart World, will cost $79.99 when purchased as a physical game cartridge. Meanwhile, digital versions will be offered for $69.99. Apparently, this new pricing model does also apply to older titles. Specifically, Nintendo has now confirmed that the physical Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will cost $79.99 or €89.99 in Europe.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is $10 cheaper, which would still make it $10 more expensive than the original game for the Switch 1. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as well as Super Mario Party Jamboree, will also be priced at $79.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Gamers who already own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can purchase an upgrade pack for $10, which unlocks the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with better graphics and proper integration of the Nintendo Switch smartphone app.

It’s not entirely clear whether the same upgrade fee will be applied to games that include new gameplay content, such as Kirby. However, Nintendo emphasizes that not all new games will cost $79.99. Instead, the price for each title will be set individually, depending on what Nintendo deems appropriate. This approach is already illustrated by Donkey Kong Bonanza, whose price of $59.99 (digital) and $69.99 (physical) is $10 lower than the corresponding MSRP of Mario Kart World.
