The Nintendo Switch has received a price drop in the UK and Europe.

Previously priced at £279.99, the standard version of the popular console now sells for £259.99 on the official Nintendo store, £20 off. This isn’t a one-off discount but a permanent drop.

Confirmed by Nintendo, the cheaper price comes one month before the release of the more expensive OLED Model, which comes with a more impressive screen as well as improved storage and audio.

“More than four and a half years after its first release, Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe,” Nintendo told Eurogamer.

“After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch OLED Model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch.”

Nintendo added that the trade prices of the Switch Lite and the OLED Model are unchanged.

The OLED Model’s price has been set at £309.99, while the Switch Lite currently retails for £199.99.

“We made the price change before the launch of Nintendo Switch OLED Model so that the price differences between each model in Nintendo’s own retail channel, My Nintendo Store, would be what Nintendo judges to be appropriate for its own store,” the company added.

First released in 2017, the Switch has a hugely impressive library including highly-rated Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and Splatoon games.

Last week saw the release of WarioWare: Get It Together!, which Digital Spy can confirm is a solid game in the quirky minigame series (a full review is in the works).

Metroid Dread and Mario Party Superstars are out next month, while a remake of the first two Advance Wars is planned for December.
