PROVIDENCE, R.I.- In the 32nd meeting all-time, the Providence College women’s basketball team was defeated by the Marquette Golden Eagles (12-6/4-3), 67-54, in BIG EAST action today (Jan. 22) in Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.  The Friars were led by Mackayla Scarlett, who had 15 points.  With the loss, the Friars fell to 9-13 on the season and 2-7 in BIG EAST action.

1ST QUARTER:
•The Friars opened the scoring in the game when Mackayla Scarlett hit a three 1:37 into the game.
•The Friars trailed 14-13 after the first 10 minutes of action.
•Scarlett led the Friars with five points as she was 2-2 from the field.
•Halle Vice recorded seven points as she shot 3-3 from the field to pace Marquette.
•The first quarter featured three ties, three lead changes and no lead bigger than three points
•The Friars shot 41.7 percent (5-12) from the field and 2-4 from three.  Marquette was 6-17 (35.3 percent) and 2-2 from three.  PC held a 10-8 advantage on the boards.

2ND QUARTER:
•Mackayla Scarlett again led the Friars with five more points in quarter as she was 2-2 from the field and had 10 points at halftime to lead all scorers.
Brynn Farrell added two points and three rebounds for PC.
•Jaidynn Mason had six points for Marquette in the second quarter.
•PC outscored Marquette, 15-13 in the second quarter and entered half with a 28-27 lead.
•PC shot 53.8 percent (7-13) for the quarter and 48 percent (12-25) for the half).  Marquette was 6-13 (46.2 percent) for the quarter and 12-30 (40 percent) for the half). PC held a 16-15 advantage on the boards for the first 20 minutes of play.

3RD QUARTER:
•Marquette scored the first four points of the third quarter and took a 31-28 lead with 8:36 remaining.
•The Golden Eagles continued to build on their lead and outscored the Friars, 25-11, in the third quarter.
•Skylar Forbes paced Marquette with 10 points on 4-4 shooting from the field.  She also added two rebounds.
Olivia Olsen had five points and two rebounds for the Friars.
•PC shot 23.1 percent (3-13) from the field, while Marquette shot 68.8 percent (11-16) in the quarter.

4TH QUARTER:
•Each team scored 15 points in the fourth quarter.
•The Friars were able to cut into the Golden Eagle lead and reduce the lead to seven points (52-45) with 6:58 remaining after a made layup by Olivia Olsen.
•Marquette was able to regain its momentum and obtain a double-digit lead on a layup on a Skylar Forbes layup to go up by 11 (58-47) with 5:57 left in the game.
•Mackayla Scarlett recorded five points in the final quarter for PC.
•Skylar Forbes had eight points in the final 10 minutes for MU.
•PC shot 23.5 percent (4-17) in the fourth quarter.  MU shot 25 percent (3-12) in the fourth quarter.

NOTES / HIGHTLIGHTS:
•The game started at 11 a.m. as it was Project Providence where local elementary school children attended the game.
•The Friars have posted a 5-27 mark all-time versus the Golden Eagles.
•Marquette’s Skylar Forbes had a game-high 23 points.  Halle Vice registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
•In addition to Mackayla Scott’s 15 points, Olivia Olsen was the only other Friar in double figures as she added 13 points and five rebounds.
•For the game, the Friars were 19-55 (34.5 percent) and 4-17 (23.5 percent) from three.  MU shot 26-58 (44.8 percent) overall and 5-13 (38.5 percent0 from three.
•MU outrebounded the Friars, 38-33.
•Attendance – 1,456

WHAT’S NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 against St. John’s. The game will be played at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. and is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
