Less than two weeks have passed since James Dewitz divulged details about the Powkiddy V90 V2. To recap, the device would be a new rival for the Anbernic RG35XX SP and Miyoo Flip, five years after the release of the original V90. Little is still known about the V90 V2, though.
Nonetheless, Dewitz has now shared information about an entirely Powkiddy gaming handheld called the RGB50. Seemingly an RGB30 (curr. $95 on Amazon) successor, the RGB50 is said to feature a 4.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a new SoC for the retro handheld scene with Wi-Fi connectivity. Dewitz adds that Powkiddy is targeting PSP emulation performance, which should see the RGB50 capable of playing almost all PS1 and N64 games too.
Dewitz has not revealed the chipset in question yet. Instead, he has hinted that the chipset is not produced by Qualcomm and will make the RGB50 akin to a ‘plastic RG405M’ In other words, the unnamed chipset should mirror the performance of the Unisoc Tiger T618 that powers the RG405M and other handhelds.
The RGB50 will run Android and Linux too, much like the Anbernic RG552 before it. Presumably, Android support means that the RGB50 will also have a touchscreen; this is not confirmed, though. Retro Handhelds speculates that the RGB50 may borrow its display from the KT-R1, which offers 1080p and 60 Hz visuals.
