Mark Cerny’s role as the PlayStation 4’s lead architect is one of the key reasons behind the console’s success, as he sought to right the wrongs of the PlayStation 3 and collaborated with developers – both first-party and third-party – on a system that was much easier to work with. According to a Digital Foundry report, the Marble Madness maker is once again on the road, meeting with publishers and partners about the PlayStation 5.

While it’s not a massive surprise, this is the first confirmation we’ve had from a reliable source that work is very much underway. The rest of the site’s report talks about what we can feasibly expect from a next-gen PlayStation, and it surmises that a technical leap won’t be possible until late 2019 – and isn’t realistic until 2020. Despite some speculation to the contrary, it seems like all the signs are aligning now, and PS5 is still a few years away.
