Months and months of Switch 2 rumors. It seemed like we were caught in a never-ending cycle that just kept piling details on, but that spell was broken today with the reveal of the Switch 2. Surprisingly, it seems almost all of the major rumors about Switch 2 were indeed spot-on. Thankfully, now we get to take a break from the leaks as the rumor mill is no doubt slowing down.
JUST KIDDING!
Yep, on the very same day as the Switch 2 reveal we already have another rumor to share, but this one is about the original Switch.
Nate the Hate was the original source who said that the Switch 2 would be revealed on Jan. 16th, 2025, and that inside info obviously turned out to be correct. The Switch 2 reveal trailer also confirmed a Nintendo Direct for April 2nd, 2025 that’ll focus on Switch 2. Now Nate is following that announcement up with a rumor of yet another Nintendo Direct, and it’s coming sooner than you might think. (h/t VGC)
According to Nate, Nintendo fans can expect one last hurrah for the original Switch via a new Nintendo Direct set to air sometime in February. With games like Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A still on the horizon, there’s certainly more Switch news to share. Along with that, there’s no doubt still a deluge of third party offerings in the works for Switch 1 as well.
Seeing one last Nintendo Direct focused on Switch will be bittersweet. It’s no doubt exciting that Switch 2 is coming this year, but the current Switch still has so much life left in it. At least, if this rumor is true, we’ll see the platform go out with a bang in terms of major games and one more presentation where it gets the spotlight.
UPDATE: We first heard rumors of a Switch 1-focused Nintendo Direct that would supposedly take place in February, as you can read in our original post above. That never came to be, but now the rumors are popping up once more, and multiple sources point to that same Direct coming this week.
This time around 3 separate sources are hinting at a Switch 1 Nintendo Direct this week. First we have a Weibo user known for leaking inside info, and they’re claiming a Direct is coming on March 26th, 2025. Along with that is the user ninspider on Famiboards, and they’ve been saying a presentation of some sort is coming this month as well. Ninspider had previously leaked the Switch 2 dock design, magnetic Joy-Con and more.
Last we have journalist Andy Robinson, who has responded with a “” emoji on a post stating that “Nintendo made the right call not having any more Switch Directs before the big Switch 2 presentation.” Robinson could simply be questioning if that is indeed the right call, or their emoji reaction could be hinting that Nintendo is indeed cooking up a Switch 1 Direct for this week.
