The finale for this morning’s State of Play featured the reveal of Housemarque’s latest project, SarosCalling it the “evolution of the Housemarque gameplay-first experience,” we don’t have any gameplay in the reveal trailer, but it does seem to be something of a spiritual successor to Returnal.

The cinematic trailer features Rahul Kohli, known for his work on iZombie, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher as the lead character. He was revealed to be named Arjun Devraj on the PlayStation Blog, with the trailer below.

Saros is an action game with the haunting story of a lost off-world colony on Carcosa under an ominous eclipse. You play as Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer who will stop at nothing to find who he is looking for.

The big difference between Saros and Returnal is that this game is built around the idea of ‘coming back stronger.’ So, with each death, you’ll be returning with permanent resources and using those to upgrade your loadout and weapons, so you’re always getting stronger. This makes Saros sound like a more approachable rogue-lite.

Saros will get an extended gameplay trailer later this year, and the game is set to release in 2026.
