T.R. Miller graduate Ronnie Cottrell is set to become the new head football coach at his alma mater pending Board approval, according to AL.com sources and media reports.

When reached by phone Monday morning, Cottrell said he could not comment. The Brewton City Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Powerhouse Sports was first to report the news.

T.R. Miller is searching for a replacement for Alabama High School Hall of Fame member Brent Hubbert, who announced his retirement in February.

Cottrell, a 1977 T.R. Miller graduate, has a 176-99 record in 23 years as a high school head coach. He won state championships at Godby, Fla., in 2012 and Mobile Christian in 2023.

Cottrell also spent nine years on Bobby Bowden’s coaching staff at Florida State before joining Mike DuBose’s staff as assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach at the University of Alabama.

After stepping down at Mobile Christian following the 2023 season, he spent this year as head coach at Lighthouse Christian College in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Cottrell’s high school head coaching career includes two years at Kinston, three at Flomaton, a year at T.R. Miller Battle of Murder Creek rival W.S. Neal, two at Carroll, two at Alma Bryant and one at Chickasaw.
