The Best Video Games Coming Out in 2025

2025 is poised to deliver outstanding video games across all platforms, from graphically impressive PC titles to easily portable Nintendo Switch (and maybe Nintendo Switch 2) releases. The first half of the year is particularly notable, with blockbuster releases like Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Monster Hunter Wilds arriving during the earlier months. Although there are gaps in the release schedule, many 2025 games have no exact window and could eventually fill those spaces. We’ll update this calendar as more information arrives.

January 2025 Video Game Releases

Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves is developer Kuro Games’ answer to the excellent Genshin Impact. This open-world action-RPG features great graphics and fantastic traversal and combat options. It launched on mobile and PC last year and arrives on PS5 in January.

Freedom Wars Remastered

In Freedom Wars Remastered, you slay vicious monsters in intense, four-player cooperative missions to reduce your million-year prison sentence. This remastered port features enhanced textures and 4K resolution options.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

• Platforms: Nintendo Switch

• Release Date: January 16, 2025

Nintendo’s well-dressed ape swings back into action to save his banana hoard from the evil Tiki tribe. You can tackle the challenging platform action solo or in a two-player, local co-op.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

• Release Date: January 17, 2025

Origins revitalizes the one-person-army action by letting you create a character and participate in legendary battles inspired by ancient China’s romanticized Three Kingdoms period.

Tales of Graces f Remastered

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.

Virtua Fighter is an adored fighting franchise known for its simple controls and ocean-deep combat mechanics. This PC version of Virtua Fighter 5 includes rollback netcode, 4K visuals, and rebalanced gameplay.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

In this new Spider-Man game, Peter Parker and Miles Morales tackle new threats that plunge New York City into chaos. Explore the city with new movement abilities, beat up criminals to restore order, and take down Kraven, Venom, and hordes of baddies.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

The Legend of Heroes is an excellent RPG franchise, but the entries are too numerous to keep track of, especially for newcomers. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remedies that by retelling the first chapter in the series with enhanced visuals and dynamic combat.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

This upcoming Souls-like action RPG is set in the dark realm of Shu, where warring factions and a mysterious monster-spawning plague plunge the world into ruin.
