Since acquiring Activision, Fans have been hopeful that Xbox will look to bring back some long-lost IP. It would seem that Prototype could be first in line for such a revival.
Prototype first released in 2009 and was followed by a sequel in 2012. The Prototype games follow the story of Alex Mercer, a human shapeshifter that can transform into anyone, or use his abilities to wreak havoc. Unfortunately, the games did not reach Activision’s lofty sales goals and as a result, Prototype was put on ice.
Prototype made a brief return in 2015, when both original titles were ported to Xbox One and PS4, but this re-release did not end up leading to any kind of sequel.
As spotted by Insider Gaming, according to one redditor, a survey has begun doing the rounds, asking for input on Alex Mercer as a returning protagonist and the shapeshifting gameplay of the Prototype games. Unfortunately, there is no further information beyond this. If true, I imagine we’d be getting a Prototype reboot, rather than a sequel, as the original game is now over 15 years old.
