On January 23, 2025, the video game world has one of its first unmissable events of the year. We are talking about the Xbox Developer Direct, an event that has become a tradition organized by Microsoft at the beginning of the year to show some of its new products for the coming months. This edition will begin at 10:00 AM PT next Thursday and will be streamed live on the official Xbox and Bethesda channels on YouTube and Twitch. These are all times in the United States:
What can we expect from the Xbox Developer Direct 2025?
Among the games confirmed for this Xbox Developer Direct are Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The first of these is the long-awaited sequel to one of the franchises that invented the shooter genre, and boasts of bringing the mythical Doomguy to a medieval universe for the first time. The second, from Compulsion Games (We Happy Few), is a stop-motion action-adventure game inspired by the culture and mythology of the American Deep South. The third, Expedition 3, is one of the JRPGs that has attracted the most attention recently for its unique narrative and visual style.
In addition to the three games mentioned above, Microsoft has promised “one more thing”. An unannounced game about which there are already all kinds of rumors on the Internet, from the remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to the return of a legendary Japanese saga (Ninja Gaiden 4?). Despite the speculation, nothing has been confirmed and we will have to wait until the date in question.
It’s worth noting that Xbox Developer Direct is not a gala like The Game Awards, where trailers are shown non-stop. The event will offer an in-depth look at the games in question, with extended gameplay and the developers talking on camera about the creative process behind each project. It’s an approach they hope will bring them closer to the audience than a simple trailer on social media.
The broadcast will be subtitled in several languages and can also be watched live on MeriStation, where you can also find a recap and full breakdown of what was announced (including impressions). No Xbox fan (and video game fan in general) should miss this January 23rd.
