We are finally in 2025 and Microsoft and XBOX are jumping the year off right away with their upcoming DEVELOPER DIRECT showcase this January 23rd. If you’ve never seen a Developer Direct from XBOX, it’s basically a showcase of games previously announced but now being showcased in detail and in depth as it nears closer to release. It some cases, XBOX has been known to announce games not previously mentioned or quite possibly shadow drop a game which XBOX has also been known to do.
What games can we expect to see? For starters, South of Midnight. The Compulsion games 1st party exclusive based in Louisiana and focused on southern culture and folklore meshed together to create an adventure like no other.
Other games expected? Doom: Dark Age. The ID software title that picks up where Doom Eternal left off in terms of a new Doom game but this game takes on a whole new quest this time around and this game look incredible
Sandfall Interactive’s game Expedition 33 which is a new hybrid action/turn based RPG that takes elements of the best of today’s RPG and JRPG genre and puts it all together to give you visual and gameplay experience not seen before. It’s looking to be one of those games that may be GOTY worthy and you’ll see at the Developer’s Showcase
XBOX also has a surprise announcement at the Developer Direct that as of right now we can only speculate about. The rumorville is, it’ll be the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII REMAKE series finally being available for XBOX after it being exclusive to Playstation for many years. That’s one rumor. Others are saying it’s a new IP. Some say it could be Psychonauts 3. Who knows? Either way, the 2025 Developer Direct is shaping up to be a great event. Don’t miss it especially if you’re an XBOX fan. It’s gonna be big.
