According to journalist Jeff Grubb, Sony Interactive Entertainment is considering hosting a PlayStation Showcase this summer rather than the traditional State of Play.
Here’s what Grubb had to say during the latest Game Mess Decides podcast:
Internally it sounds like they’re debating, flapping between maybe making something this summer a full showcase, versus another State of Play, but they are considering a showcase.
This is just speculation at this point, as nothing has been confirmed by the PlayStation manufacturer. Sony last week held its first State of Play of the year, where it announced release dates for a number of upcoming titles such as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Hell Is Us, as well as announcing new titles including Housemarque’s Saros and a remastered Days Gone.

State of Play is generally the way Sony likes to announce things nowadays, although PlayStation Showcases are rolled out now and then for really big reveals, such as when it announced the PS5 in 2020. The most recent showcase was in May 2023, and lasted more than an hour and was packed full of game updates and announcements.
