Activision has released ads for previously unannounced Guitar Hero Mobile, Call of Duty: Zombie Defender and Crash Bandicoot Brawl games on its social media platforms.
The new Guitar Hero title is described in one ad as a fast-paced, competitive mobile rhythm game, while Zombie Defender is said to ba a “a top-down, tactical mobile defence game”. Crash Bandicoot Brawl is called a round survival game featuring up to 30 or more contestants.
However, as reported by Video Games Chronicle, the games don’t actually exist, appear to use generative AI for their creatives, and aren’t available for download.
Market research
Some ads, promoted on Activision’s social media channels like Facebook and Instagram, were found to link to fake app stores.
When users attempted to download the game, one link was said to have led to a survey instead, asking questions about what drew the user to click the ad, how often they play mobile games and more.
“Thanks for your interest! This isn’t a real game, but could be some day,” the survey stated.
“We’d love if you could answer this short survey, which could help inform the potential future of this game. Your feedback really matters to us!”
Activision has not officially announced Guitar Hero Mobile, Crash Bandicoot Brawl or Call of Duty: Zombie Defender. Among the three titles, only Guitar Hero Mobile has an ad visible outside of Facebook and Instagram.
