11 bit Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming game, The Alters. The new trailer shows how the new game takes inspiration from the publisher’s 2014 video game, This War of Mine. Unfortunately, there’s still no release date yet.

The Alters is the upcoming game from 11 bit Studios, the developer and publisher behind the 2014 hit video game, This War of Mine. Ahead of its launch, a new trailer showing more details of the game and how it takes inspiration from This War of Mine has been released.

In the recently released video, the publisher explains the synopsis of the game which sees players take on the role of a character named Jan who has become stranded on a planet. To survive, players will have to form a new crew made up of alternative versions of the protagonist.

These alternate versions are called Alters and are made when a player visits Jan’s past and makes life-changing decisions which result in a different current outcome for Jan. For example, going to college and ending up as a doctor or a botanist. Think of it as Marvel’s Kang having all his multiversal variants work for him, but in this case, these Jan variants are from the same universe but different realities.

Each Alter has a different set of skills which will come in handy in helping Prime Jan succeed. However, players will also have to see to their individual needs including their emotional wellbeing for the mission to progress. Like in This War of Mine, players will have to gather resources to help them escape the planet which is set to get destroyed after a set time.

With a mix of the planet’s impending doom, the needs of the alters, and the results of the decisions you make, The Alters does make for an interesting game. Set to launch on PlayStation 5 (available on Amazon for $499), Xbox Series S/Series X, and PC (Epic, Steam, and GOG), The Alters doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected to arrive this year.
