A song dedicated to PlayStation’s 30th anniversary is topping the charts in Japan.
You may recall Sony signed local artist YOASOBI to write a song celebrating its console’s 30th anniversary. Players were encouraged to share their memories about the brand, and those have been immortalised in a distinctive electropop ditty named Players.
At the time of writing, the song is number one on the Japanese iTunes chart, and its animated music video on PlayStation Japan’s official YouTube channel has already attracted over two million views in less than three days.
Of course, these are two powerhouses of Japanese entertainment right now, so the results aren’t especially surprising: pop duo YOASOBI has had a string of hit songs lately, some of which have been used as the title songs for popular anime like Blue Period and Oshi no Ko.
PlayStation, meanwhile, may be overshadowed by Nintendo in its domestic region, but it’s still an extremely popular brand that many local gamers will have grown up with.
It doesn’t hurt that the song itself is a bit of an earworm, especially if you’re a fan of YOASOBI’s distinctive style of music.
