Alabama football’s A-Day game might not be a game at all for 2025. The Crimson Tide announced details for the April 12 event at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and described it as “an hour-and-a-half practice” in a news release.
The demise of the spring game has been a trend across college football this year. Several schools have opted out of holding a game, due to some combination of injury concerns and the upcoming spring transfer portal window.
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer had signaled such a move was coming, saying earlier in March that A-Day would be “modified” but without going into much detail. A-Day will be the Tide’s last practice of the spring.
“I guess I would consider last year’s spring game, A-Day, probably a modified game,” DeBoer said on March 3. “We didn’t split teams up. We talked about the O-line depth, talked about the tight end depth and we’ll see how the spring goes. To me it’s just something where we want to have controlled reps, so lining up and getting something out of the practice. Because I think all 15 practices that we get are really important, getting something out of that.
“And as we go through the spring, we’ll continue to figure out where we’re at, to see what we want to do when it comes to the day itself. So we want to make it a great celebration for our fan base. We want to put some football out there because we know everyone associated with our program can’t wait for April 12, but we also gotta do what’s right for us. So that’s kind of something as we get closer that I can probably give you more info on.”
A-Day will not be televised this year, for the first time since at least 2006. Admission at the stadium will be free, although UA announced it will hold an autograph session on the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after the practice, which will be limited to members of the Yea Alabama NIL collective, similar to how Fan Day has been the past few years.
The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT with the annual Tide Pride breakfast at Coleman Coliseum. Starting at 9 a.m., Alabama will open Champions Lane, which will feature live music, autographs and more.
The Crimson Tide will hold its annual Walk of Fame ceremony at 10 a.m. at Denny Chimes, honoring 2024 captains Tyler Booker, Deonate Lawson, Jalen Milroe and Malachi Moore, with DeBoer also speaking.
Players will make the Walk of Champions at 11:35 a.m., before beginning the practice at noon. A-Day will also include home events for baseball, softball and track and field.
