Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film will release in 2027. More details about the Zelda movies have appeared online.

On Friday, a post on the newly-launched Nintendo Today app revealed that a Zelda live-action movie will be released on March 26, 2027. The only 21 seconds-long videoonly mentioned that a live-action based on The Legend of Zelda will be released worldwide on the date mentioned earlier. No other details about the movie were revealed in that post.

However, according to some latest industry reports, the film may be the first installment in a planned trilogy. Production List, which is a tracking service by the Film & Television Industry Alliance, states that filming will take place in New Zealand from November 2025 to April 2026.

The website also features a brief synopsis that reveals that the movie will follow Link, a young warrior tasked with defending Hyrule from the dark forces of Ganon, a warlord seeking the all-powerful Triforce. The story will feature monstrous creatures, treacherous dungeons, and puzzle-solving quests – all of which we have already experienced in the iconic video games.

The film is being directed by Wes Ball, who has previously directed movies like the Maze Runner trilogy and the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Further, the movie is being produced by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Marvel veteran Avi Arad.

The upcoming Zelda movies will mark Nintendo’s third major film adaptation after Detective Pikachu and the record-breaking Super Mario Bros. Movie. With a confirmed release date, filming location, and ambitious trilogy plans, The Legend of Zelda seems to be one of Nintendo’s most ambitious cinematic projects to date.
