Despite a projected late 2025 debut, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is already winning awards. At the Famitsu Dengeki 2024 show, Nintendo’s upcoming creature hunter took home the prize for the Most Anticipated Game. More importantly for fans, director Haruka Tochigi provided a promising development update. Although he didn’t reveal a Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date, Tochigi stated that the game is in its “final fine-tuning phase.”
Pokémon expert Lewtwo translated Tochigi’s message before posting it on social media. The Game Freak employee has been with the company since 2013, but Pokémon Legends: Z-A is his first major project as director. The development process has been smooth, as Tochigi said its “release is just around the corner.”
Tochigi also referred to a gameplay experience that will “Mega Evolve” from previous titles. Mega Evolution is one of the most anticipated aspects of the new game. A recent related Pokémon Legends: Z-A leak involved the unique-looking Victreebel. The pitcher plant could see its abilities temporarily boosted for the first time.
Viewers saw other gameplay additions in last month’s official Pokémon Presents trailer. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will evolve the 2022 Pokémon Legends: Arceus battle mechanics with more real-time elements. However, the Game Freak title will take place entirely in an urban setting. Even so, with ample parks and greenery, players can expect Lumiose City to be teeming with activity. Gamers can jump across rooftops as they explore the environment.
Considering Tochigi’s promising update, gamers might have hopes for an earlier Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date. Even if it’s not a Switch 2 launch title, the April Nintendo Direct will likely feature the game. Still, Pokémon Legends: Z-A may have to battle Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for the spotlight.
