Despite Nintendo’s best efforts, speculation about the Switch 2 release date and price continues to run rampant. Some of the confusion originates from retailers preparing for the chaos of selling the console. On a recent Kit & Krysta podcast, a former Nintendo employee warned against thinking retailers have inside information.
The individual who appeared in the YouTube video called himself “Sean” and claimed to have worked in Nintendo’s sales division. While Sean shared no direct knowledge of the company’s Switch 2 plans, he participated in several past product launches. According to the repeat podcast guest, retailers are in the dark nearly as long as gamers when it comes to a Switch 2 price. He cast doubt on a Canadian big-box store that made a Switch 2 placeholder with a $499 CAD price.
Costco is not the only retailer that gave anxious buyers hints about Switch 2 pricing. Observant gamers noticed a now-removed Best Buy listing in a Google search, where the console was priced at $350. Switch 2 leaks haven’t been limited to pricing and release dates either. The French electronics giant Fnac produced an image of a surprisingly large Switch 2 game case.
Nintendo is to blame for eliminating some of the mystery surrounding the handheld. The company is a prolific filer of legal patents, with some documents dating back to 2023 revealing Switch 2 specs. When Nintendo first announced the Switch 2 in January, its larger screen and magnetic joy-cons came as no shock to gamers. Still, release dates and prices are not something that companies have to decide on years before a console launch.
Even though Sean no longer works for Nintendo, he offered his own Switch 2 release date prediction. The former employee expects the console to arrive before the end of summer 2025, with a June debut possible. Regardless, he implored Kit & Krysta viewers to wait until the April 2nd Nintendo Direct for confirmation.
